Jesus scorned this disciple suggesting when you live your life with a sword you die by the sword! Jesus lived by the sword. Jesus supposedly died by the Sword as he quoted in the garden before his death when his disciple cut the ear off one of the arrestors.
The significance of the Spear/Sword is that ‘Jesus came to this world with a sword Not Peace.’ As quoted in Matthew. This evidence supports Jesus’ use of Mandrake and his survival. And as the story unfolds, Jesus had to survive to play out his trickery.
The soldiers did Jesus a favour by only spearing him in the side because if Jesus had his legs broken he would have eventually – genuinely died. In turn this would create extra pressure on the heart and overall body that would accelerate death. Instead this would cause the body to hang without support. Instant death would not occur by breaking the legs of the men crucified. After all they got Simon to carry his cross (and that seems out of character). Although the spearing in the side is explained as a prophecy, it would also indicate the soldiers may have been paid not to break his legs, but to give a surface side wound. Jesus was speared in the side, not his heart this will not necessarily cause death. Jesus supposedly died quicker than the other two men on the crosses beside him. “Not one of his bones will be broken.” And there is another scripture that says “People will look at him whom they pierced.” What he said is true, and he knows that he speaks the truth.) This was done to make the scripture come true. (The one who saw this happen has spoken of it, so that you also may believe. One of the soldiers, however, plunged his spear into Jesus’ side, and at once blood and water poured out. But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they did not break his legs. So the soldiers went and broke the legs of the first man and then of the other man who had been crucified with Jesus. They requested this because it was Friday, and they did not want the bodies to stay on the crosses on the Sabbath, since the coming Sabbath, was especially holy. Jn: Then the Jewish authorities asked Pilate to allow them to break the legs of the men who had been crucified, and to take the bodies down from the crosses. Once again I will mention mandrake was named in the Old Testament and since everything about the New Testament is referenced from the Old Testament as a prophecy then this detail cannot be overlooked. In particular since this effect is similar with the administering of mandrake, which was known in the first century. The perfect timing of drinking the wine from the sponge and then dying cannot be ignored. He supposedly died quicker than the other two on the crosses beside him. Wine does not kill a person, but wine mixed with a death simulating drug would cause this affect. This is consistent in all chapters that he takes the wine on the cross and when he finishes the wine, he is suddenly finished, giving up his spirit. Jesus drank the wine and said “it is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Jn: Jesus knew that by now everything had been completed and in order to make the scripture come true, he said “I am thirsty ” A bowl was there, full of cheap wine, so a sponge was soaked in the wine, put on a stalk of hyssop, and lifted up to his lips. I will now give you John’s continued version of Jesus on the cross.
